Introduction
Creating a secure and scalable foundation for handling genome data.
The National Genome Center (NGC) is responsible for processing, storing, and providing genome data for research and clinical use in Denmark. Genome data consists of large, complex, and sensitive datasets that require both high capacity and rigorous quality assurance to be usable in practice. For researchers, clinicians, and the pharmaceutical industry, access to consistent and precise data is essential in developing better treatments.
Challanges
Increasing data volumes and complexity required coherence and control.
NGC faced a growing volume of genome data that needed to be managed and analyzed across laboratories, systems, and organizations. Data volumes increased, complexity grew, and requirements for quality, data protection, and governance became more stringent. The challenge was therefore not only about capacity, but about coherence. Genome data needed to be received, quality assured, shared, and utilized in a consistent and secure manner, enabling both research environments and clinical institutions to operate on a shared and reliable foundation. At the same time, the solution needed to scale alongside growing data volumes and use cases.
The Solution
A unified architecture for secure, consistent, and scalable data management.
Codellent designed and implemented a unified architecture supporting the entire data flow of genome data at NGC. The solution creates structure and transparency in data handling - from ingestion and quality assurance to analysis, sharing, and storage. The architecture enables secure data exchange between laboratories, compute environments, and clinical institutions, while providing bioinformaticians with access to a consistent and stable data foundation. At the same time, the solution increases transparency in processes and provides clear visibility into analysis status across organizations, ensuring data can be used safely and effectively in practice.
